Peter Thiel speaks at the Republican National Convention.
My latest piece for The Guardian is about Peter Thiel's endorsement of Donald Trump, and why it might make perfect sense. It's easy for liberals to caricature Thiel (and Trump), but I think it's worth taking him seriously, as a powerful political actor and as a sophisticated political thinker. His politics are atrocious, but they're also fairly consistent and well argued. And in Trump, Thiel may have found the ideal instrument for his particular vision of authoritarian capitalism.
